Why do the birds drop their poop in the pool?!?

We have an inground pool, right? And EVERY DAY, birds pick out the crap from their nest, and fly over the pool and drop it in, DELIBERATELY! I have NO idea why, and it is so disgusting and annoying to clean out. Is this normal? Does anyone know how to stop them from doing this?!
